Welcome to Little Knights Preschool

 at St. Joseph Catholic School!

Called to Discipleship: Be Christ’s Light

I am excited to be a part of the St. Joseph Catholic School community as the new full day preschool teacher working with four year olds. I look forward to being a part of such a positive and caring academic community where body, mind and spirit are nurtured and developed.

Although I earned my education degree in Ohio, I have been a preschool teacher in Libertyville for the last 20 years and at St. Joseph Catholic School for the last 5 years.  I am excited to begin my 6th year at St. Joseph teaching preschool.  I love teaching preschool children and seeing the world through their eyes. I believe a warm and loving environment both encourages children to learn as well as helps them gain self-confidence. I am a strong believer in learning through play as well as hands on learning to help foster a child’s creativity and development. I look forward to a positive, loving, and wonderful year with your child!

This afternoon we read a couple different versions of The Little Red Hen.  The boys and girls made their own little red hens.
They worked in pairs and one by one put a piece of candy corn in their boat while the other person kept a tally of the number. The challenged was not to sink their boat.
The next step was to see if the foil boats floated in a pan of water.  All the boats floated.
Candy corn boat science.  The boys and girls worked in pairs.  The first step was to build a boat with a sheet of aluminum foil.
Media with Mrs Hoglund.  She read us a book about Fall (on this snowy morning).  The boys and girls drew pictures on the I Pads..
The boys and girls did a count the room.  They found the cards around the room and identified where to put the number on their sheet. They wrote the number and filled in the ten frame.
Scruffy came back and shared the adventures he had with James over the past week.  They saw Santa, went to the doctor and played with James’ sister and brother!  A fun week for Scruffy.
Scruffy is spending Thanksgiving with his family and will be back and ready to go home with more friends in December.
We learned about turkeys. A boy turkey is called a Tom Turkey and a girl turkey is a hen.  Turkeys eat salamanders, small bugs and berries and other vegetation that grow in the woods.
The boys and girls made their own cute name turkeys.
Acorns!  We learned about the life cycle of an acorn/ oak tree. We also examined acorns and even broke them apart to find the kernel/seed inside.
