Mr. Realmuto (Mr. R) holds a bachelor's degree from Robert Morris University. He has over ten years of experience in Special Education working at Barrington School District while leading a science club and has also been a substitute science teacher in the Schaumburg School District. His love for teaching science was answered when a position at SJCS became available. He looks forward to completing his Master's Degree in education next year. Mr. R. has two students currently enrolled at SJCS. He loves writing hilarious children's books and making homemade pizza.

ABOUT OUR SCIENCE PROGRAM

All grades start the program by learning about classroom and lab procedures, lab safety, lab equipment.

 

Grade level programs are as follows:

6th grade - Earth Science

7th grade - Life Science

8th grade - Physical Science

 

Our textbook for all grades is Savvas Realize. Students will have both a physical textbook and online textbook and access to this program.

Middle School Science
 
This week, all of Middle School will work on their invention project (posted on Google Classroom). Students will research a famous inventor and create a slideshow presentation on their inventor. They will also be tasked with coming up with their own invention! They will create a drawing of their invention and scan it into their presentation. They will also explain what was the inspiration for their invention and why they created it. They will have Monday - Wednesday in class to work on it, and it shouldn't be homework if they use their class time wisely. Presentations will begin Thursday (10/31).

This week, students will learn how organisms are classified into Domains and Kingdoms. They will be able to identify between unicellular and multicellular organisms. 


Eighth Grade Science:

 This week, students will be able to describe the units used to measure mass and volume. Students will be able to determine the density of a material using different measuring devices such as scales, rulers and beakers.

Seventh Grade Science: 

This week, students will learn the concepts between living and nonliving things. They will be able to determine the 7 factors that scientists use to describe living thing.


Eighth Grade Science:

 This week, students will begin to learn about Matter and its different states. They will begin to tie in their knowledge of elements and the Periodic Table.

Middle School Science:

This week, students will learn about Rube Goldberg and will design and create their own Rube Goldberg machines. This will introduce students to physics and engineering principles. This will be the first project grade of Middle School Science.
