Week at a Glance: May 20 - May 24
Math: We are continuing Chapter 14 Geometry. This week we will cover lessons six through nine. Lessons six and seven explore drawing angles and solving problems with angles. The children will take a lesson three through seven quiz on Wednesday. Lessons eight and nine will cover triangles and quadrilaterals.
Objectives:
- Use a protractor to draw angles of a specified measure.
- Solve addition and subtraction problems to find unknown angles on a diagram in real-world and mathematical situations.
- Classify triangles based on angle measure and describe triangles using their attributes.
- Classify quadrilaterals using their attributes.

Social Studies: We have finished our studies on the regions of the United States. The rest of the school year we will be focusing on exploring the state of Illinois. The students will begin by working individually to find specific research on different topics in Illinois. We will combine all our findings to create one book identifying geography, history, civics, and economics in the state of Illinois.
Objectives:
- Identify the major geographic features of Illinois.
- Research demographics, history, and economics using the geographic inquiry process, and showcase the information using a chart, graph, or maps.
- Find information using maps, books, and the internet.
- Research important events specific to Illinois.
- Identify three factors of production in Illinois.

Religion: The students will prepare for the Ten Commandment test this week completing a variety of activities. They will take the test on Wednesday.
Objective:
Consider how Scripture and Tradition can deepen your understanding.

LA/Reading: We are continuing to learn more about the features of Earth in Unit 5 of MyView. The overall question for this unit is, why is it important to understand our planet? Our question for this week is, what makes an extreme location a place to both protect and explore? Our literary focus for this week is informational texts. We will read The Himalayas by Charles W Mayward. We will focus on finding details in the text that help support the main idea and summarizing those points, as well as making inferences. Our language convention for this week is understanding and applying comma rules. The vocabulary words for this week are: survey, subcontinental, plateau, altitude, and erosion.
Objectives:
- Generate questions about text before, during, and after reading to deepen understanding and gain information.
- Evaluate details read to determine key ideas.
- Make inferences and use evidence to support understanding.
- Discuss specific ideas in the text that are important to the meaning.
- Uses commas and quotation marks to mark direct speech and quotations from a text.

Spelling: Our spelling words for this week focus on words with prefixes. The students will complete three word choice activities and one spelling worksheet to help them prepare for the test on Friday.
Objectives:
- Demonstrate and apply phonetic knowledge by decoding words using knowledge of prefixes.
